“And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shalt you eat all the days of your life: And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel”…
Becoming Satan’s medium of deception, the serpent was cursed with deformity and depravation (for animals don’t speak human language). However the enmity GOD declared was between the real serpent; Satan the deceiving enslaver; and the deceived and enslaved woman. Moreover, enmity also included Satan or serpent SEED; and the future SEED of the woman. This was implied by the singular use of the word SEED (not seeds). Such deliberate usage foreshadowed the ongoing 1 on 1 enmity; that would exists between Satan the deceiving enslaver; and the promised redeemer the incarnate Son of God. Thus Satan will bruise-wound Christ heel; and Christ will wound Satan’s head. The foreshadowed enmity also alluded to the future defeat of Satan; ending man’s enslavement to sin and death. More details are revealed in the Everlasting Gospel topic…
The woman knew she did wrong; so she anxiously awaited her turn to hear GOD speak. “Unto the woman He said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you. And unto Adam he said, Because you have hearkened unto the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, you shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life…till you return unto the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust you are, and unto dust shall you return…
Man and woman both disobeyed GOD; willingly broke His command; ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil; and were likely surprised they were still alive. Yet, their eyes were opened and they suddenly realised they were naked. Feeling guilty and ashamed they tried covering their nakedness, thus hid in the bushes of the garden. This will be discussed more fully in the Why Guilty Conscience topic… Now back to origins of freedom and slavery. “And the Lord God said…now lest man “ put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever….the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life”.
